As one of the three holy lakes in southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, along with Lake Namtso and Lake Yamzhog Yumco, Lake Manasarovar in Pulan county of Ali prefecture boasts the largest freshwater capacity among the high-altitude regions on Earth.

Covering an area of 100,000 hectares, the Manasarovar Wetland is a wetland ecosystem encompassing Manasarovar Lake and Lhanag-tso Lake.

Within the wetland, there are 95 species of rare and endangered animals. Notable among them are the Parus humilis, Tibetan antelope, Tibetan argali, and Kam dwarf hamster, which are endemic to China.
